Kecak is one of Balinese Dance and the most popular in Bali, which is created on 1930s and played by many dancers’ especially male dancers. Tens of bare-breasted men sit in a circle, around the flickering light of an oil lamp chandelier. They start dancing to the rhythmic sound of their own voices, who yell”CAK”and take their hands raised to the sky and bodies shaking in unison. The story is a fragment of a Great Hindu’s Epic of Ramayana from India and was known since Treta Yuga (400 BC).
Regular performances of the Ramayana Kecak & Fire Dance is held in the Padang -Padang Stage Sea View at everyday start from 18.00 and the opportunity to witness this unique dance should not be missed.
THE SYNOPSIS OF RAMAYANA KECAK & FIRE DANCE
It was told the Prince Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Laksmana are exiled in the middle of the forest. Rama goes hunting a golden deer at the request of his wife Sita, who saw the strange animal and has asked him to catch it. While he is away, Sita is kidnapped by Rahwana King and taken to the latter’s island kingdom of Alengka. In Asokawana garden Sita who was accompanied by Trijata bewailing her fates is unlucky. Suddenly, Hanoman comes and show Sita the ring of Rama and tells of her husband impending rescue attempt. Then Sita deliver a flower to Hanoman for her husband and requested Rama to release her from Alengka immediately. Hanoman then destroy Asokawana garden until totally ruined. The giants very angry and then catch the Hanoman and attempt to burn him. Because his miracle Hanoman can secede and return to burn the Alengka Palace ( fire dance attraction ).
